What if you could create entire Halloween character bodies instead of just the faces and heads?

D.I.Y. flower pot people use multiple painted pots of different sizes that are glued together to make the torso and limbs. The arms and legs are then connected to the torso using twine going through the drainage holes and knotted at the other end.

Whether you paint a clay pot for this or not, this makes an easy DIY project. All you really have to do is fill the pot with dirt and place a creepy hand on top. Zombie, skeleton, mummy, and wicked witch hands are available at party stores and online retailers.

More Ideas

Try a clay pot that appears to be overflowing or dripping with blood. After painting a base coat and allowing paint to dry, drip some blood-red paint over the sides from the top rim.

Just a few long drip runs make a big impact, I wouldn’t over-do it too much.

Try using glow-in-the-dark paint for an eerie night time effect (see image below).

One thing you could do is place these scary planters indoors or outdoors as actual planters

There are some interesting all-black plants you can display, or try something carnivorous like a Venus Fly Trap.

The Black Raven ZZ Plant is a good indoor plant that can handle lower light conditions. Zamioculcas Zamiifolia (ZZ) plants have beautiful black foliage and just happen to be one of the easiest houseplants to care for.

These creations can even be candle holders.

Easy DIY Terracotta Painting Method

  1. Clean debris off the pot. Use a damp washcloth or use a brush and water. Allow the pot to dry.
  2. Apply the base coat with acrylic paint using a broad brush, then allow it to dry completely.
  3. Using a pencil, make an outline of your design.
  4. Fill in the details using a thin brush or use paint pens with a fine point on them. Allow the paint to dry completely.
  5. Using 3 or more applications of a spray-on clear coat sealer will protect the paint and make your painted pots last much longer.
  6. Finally (this is optional), apply any extra details like spider legs or glow in the dark googly eyes.

So there you are! As you have seen, you can keep it simple or make it a very detailed project. Hopefully these ideas get your creative juices flowing and inspire you to create your own.

Happy Halloween everyone!
